Leaving at approx 6am the inside trip runs into the northern parts of the bay (weather permitting). Rooney’s Point is the most northerly point on the inside of Fraser Island. Deep holes to 40m and soft coral reefs are found here. Commonly caught fish species at Roonies Point include cod, emperor, sweetlip, mackerel, cobia, tuskfish, sharks, marlin, tuna, hussar, coral trout and trevally. The Southern Gutters are approx 30 nautical miles North West of Hervey Bay and half way between the top of Fraser Island and Bundaberg. A number of deep holes where fish tend to school are found here. Depths range from 25 m on the outer edges to 60m in the holes. The main species caught here are the coral trout, however red emperor, sweetlip, cod, hussar, trevally, king fish, mackerel, marlin, tuna and tuskfish are not uncommon and can all be caught in good numbers.
