Leaving at approx 6am the outside trips (weather permitting) run outside Fraser Island either to the North through Break Sea Spit off Sandy Cape or through the Wide Bay Bar at the southern end of the island. Large patches of coral reef are found here, like the Sandy Cape Shoals. Water depth ranges from 10m on the shoals to 120m plus on the continental shelf.
